Dating services were made for a reason. But, unfortunately, 92 year old Johnny Davies simply didn't know or understand this reason, but he still used the local dating services despite the more than conspicuous fact that he was somewhat more experienced in the ways of life than the usual service users. Meaning that Johnny was basically a very old man. And dating services were more than a peripheral part of his life.
After the celerity of Johnny's pleasant little life situated in the heart of the Lancastrian countryside in a little cottage on the top of Maple Stone Hill was cruelly disrupted by the death of his wife, poor, unfortunate Georgina Davies who succumbed to breast cancer at the age of 63, Johny was left for another 30 years to bathe in his own loneliness. Left in solitude where he scoured the great expanse of the Internet's dating services for a person to be with. A fellow human to help stem the eternal pain that was left by the death of his wife. A fellow O.A.P who did crosswords every morning before a breakfast of muesli, couldn't tell the difference between the letter e and o, and overall liked or even loved him for who he was.
But unfortunately for old Johnny, his faith in age countless dates over the years the so called magic of speed Internet dating had already failed him. He'd managed to arrange countless dates over the years but had always been denied a happy ending. Was it his age? Was it his wrinkles? Was it his cataracts? Was it that he was always bent over double and didn't appear to be the most effective love machine in the world? Was it that they simply didn't like him? Johnny asked himself these questions all the time.
To him, his wife had been everything. To him she had been absolutely stunning. She had enlightened his soul and even at that moment as he sat hunched over his milk submerged mussel he could remember her aroma. A combination of lavender and rosemary in a cohesion of coppery hair. He had loved her. His love ached. The vivacious fire of life that had once burned so bright was now low and fighting to sustain it's damp existence. And as Johnny started to leaf through his emails with a very stiff finger, even the arrival of another dating mail news failed to stop the pained tears start streaming down his face. Johnny realised after 30 years that he simply couldn't love anybody else.
